Research Priorities
The Geneva School of Diplomacy has established a comprehensive research strategy that addresses pressing global challenges through rigorous academic inquiry. Our research priorities reflect the institution’s commitment to advancing understanding in international relations, diplomacy, and global governance.
The strategy is built around three pillars: generating knowledge that informs policy, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and training the next generation of researchers in the diplomatic sciences.
Thematic Areas
Our research is organised around the following thematic areas:
- International Peace and Security
- Multilateral Diplomacy and International Organisations
- Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs
- Sustainable Development and Environmental Governance
- Digital Diplomacy and Emerging Technologies
Institutional Goals
By 2030, GSD aims to expand its research output by strengthening partnerships with international organisations based in Geneva, increasing the number of externally funded research projects, and enhancing the visibility of its scholarly publications within the broader academic community.
The Research Office coordinates these efforts and provides support to faculty and doctoral candidates in pursuing funded projects and collaborative initiatives.
