Visa/Residence Permit Guidance

International applicants admitted to programmes at the Geneva School of Diplomacy must ensure compliance with Swiss visa and residence permit requirements. Procedures vary by nationality and programme duration and are governed by Swiss federal and cantonal authorities.

The Geneva School of Diplomacy provides guidance and supporting documentation where applicable. However, the legal responsibility for submitting complete applications and meeting deadlines lies solely with the student, and the School has no legal capacity to intervene in government decisions.

Intakes and Recommended Timing

The Geneva School of Diplomacy offers two intakes per year: September and February.

For applicants who require a Swiss student visa (generally non-EU applicants), it is strongly recommended to apply at least six months before the intended intake to allow sufficient processing time. Late applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Residence Permit Requirement (EU/EFTA and Non-EU)

EU/EFTA citizens do not typically require a visa to enter Switzerland, but they must still apply for a residence permit to study in Switzerland. Students are advised to remain in close contact with the Admissions Office for guidance during the residence permit process.

Important Rule: Visa Application Timing

Students should apply for a visa only after completing the enrolment procedure. Failure to do so may lead to refusal by the immigration authorities.
